PLACE MATS
Preparation
1 Draw a 9 x 6in (22.5 x 15cm) rectangle on pattern paper. Round off the ends to make an egg shape. Transfer to card and cut out for a template.

2 Place the template on the felt and cut out as many shapes as required.
3 Decorate the table mats with strips of ribbon and ricrac braid, to look like Easter eggs. Stick the ribbon in place.
Preparation
1 Draw a 6in (15cm)-diameter circle on paper and, using it as a pattern, cut out 2 card circles. Cut a lin (2.5cm)-diameter hole in the middle of both.
2 Knot the 2 card rings together with the wool end. Unroll a long length and wind a ball that will slip through the hole easily. Wind wool over the rings, working round so that the strands lie evenly, until the hole is filled. Wind as many small balls of yarn as you require. Thread the wool into a bodkin for the last windings, and push this through the hole. The more wool you can get onto the rings, the better the finished pompon.
3 With pointed scissors, snip the strands on the edges of the rings. The wool will spring away from the card and you will be able to tie wool between the card rings and round the ‘waist’ of the ball.
4 Gently tear the card rings away from the ball. Trim the ball if necessary.
5 Chick Make a large yellow pompon and a smaller pompon on a 4in (10cm)- diameter card ring. Stick it to the larger ball for a head. Cut a diamond shape from yellow felt for a beak. Sew or stick the beak into the head. Work eyes from French knots, using black wool — or sew small beads into the head.
6 Make legs by bending a yellow pipe- cleaner in half. Sew it to the underside of the body. Bend the ends to make feet.
7 Rabbits These are made in the same way as the chicks. Make a large white pompon for the body and a smaller white pompon for the head. Make a tiny blue pompon for a tail on 4in (18mm) card circles. Cut 2 blue felt ears for each rabbit and stick in place on the head. Stick the tail to the body. Make the eyes as you did for the chicks. Cut a tiny pink circle for the nose and stick to the face. Bend a white pipe-cleaner in half then bend the ends in for about lin (2.5cm) to make paws. Sew the paws under the front body.
Finishing
8 Shred tissue paper and put a little into each basket. Put chocolate eggs on the tissue, top with a chick or rabbit. Trim the baskets with ribbon or a few artificial flowers if desired.
