Stars and Circles Roller Blind 01

An unconventional way with which to decoupage is by using fabric. For this brightly coloured blind, gingham stars are attached to a fabric blind using fabric iron-on adhesive which makes it simple to make and also very effective.

YOU WILL NEED

Fabric iron-on adhesive

Soft pencil

Sharp scissors

Gingham (various colours)

Handilady

Iron

Plain roller blinds

VARIATIONS

In addition to the stars and circles, cut out crescent moons; or perhaps go for something quite different like a series of naive animals – perhaps a whole Noah’s ark?

Stars and Circles Roller Blind

1 Draw plenty of stars and circles onto the smooth side of the fabric iron-on adhesive using the soft pencil. Then roughly cut out the shapes, leaving a narrow margin around the edge of the pencilled lines.

2 Lay down the rough side of each fabric iron-on adhesive cutout onto the reverse side of a piece of

Gingham material. (To make so many diverse shades of gingham, I dyed lengths of gingham fabric with different colours.) With your iron on a medium setting, iron over the paper to transfer the adhesive onto the fabric.

3 Cut around each of the stars and circles accurately, using sharp scissors so that the outline is very clear. You are now ready to begin decorating your blind.

4 Choose which circles you want to go on which 9′ stars. Then remove the backing paper from the circle, position the circle in the centre of the star and iron down until it is firmly stuck in place.

5 Remove the backing paper from the star, place onto the blind and iron down in the same way. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the blind is covered with randomly placed stars, circles and circles, on stars.

6 To make a border, take some extra circles and then iron them onto the lower edge of the blind. Either repeat the colours in a sequence or stick them down in randomly; the choice is yours.
